January 10th Hotfixes: Cast Speed Debuffs Nerfed to 10% against Players

Written By Aridn

As of late, Blizzard is on top of their never ending battle for better balance in PvP. Many complaints have been made about cast speed debuffs throughout the PvP community, and the Hunter Goat pet has become somewhat of a meme lately with its Trample ability able to effortlessly apply a 25% cast speed debuff to players.

Earlier this morning Lead PvP Developer Brian Holinka hinted at an incoming nerf to the Goat's debuff via Twitter.

This left many players asking about other cast time debuffs, which not only effect the speed of casts, but also heal over time ticks, damage over time ticks and global cooldowns. It didn't take Blizzard long to respond, and just a few moments ago we received word that every cast speed debuff would be receiving a nerf to 10% against players.

From the Patch Notes

The Players React

This is an enormous change and effects nearly everyone, as most people either are, play with, or play against one the above classes. We wanted to get some feedback.

Rank 1 Restoration Druid Bigmoran, who has been outspoken on the imbalances of these debuffs and goats in particular had this to say:

As far as players who have recieved this debuff go, the response has been mixed. Nadagast, known as much for his hilarious in game commentary as he is for his top end Warlock play, took to Twitter to vent his frustrations

On the opposite end of that spectrum, high rated European Rogue Recycle also saw Twitter as a good platform to show his support for these changes, saying:

Overall, it is good to see Blizzard working so hard on addressing issues that are being brought up by the PvP community. It is my opinion that changes are always welcome if they are for the betterment of the game regardless how well they are recieved.

Now we want to hear what you think. Let us know how these changes affect you in the comments below or on Twitter @PVPLive.

Confused as to why all casting debuffs got a blanket nerf and not just the one that was rediculous. Have people really been complaining about mind numbing, and necrotic strike, and slow of all things? lol

Just my opinion on the matter, but if they were only to nerf some cast debuffs, it could cause a pretty big shift in class representation and comps. I can understand the arguement being made, especially by classes that have a more active means of applying the debuff, such as Warlocks with their Curse of Enfeeblement, but if it were to remain 25% while goats and mind numbing received the nerf it would innately make locks much stringer. Same goes for other classes with similar mechanics.

-Casting speed was not broken so this is not a fix, it's a change on the mechanic.
-This change should be treated minutely as it impacts in a huge part of the game.
-If there isn't a mechanic to encounter this change properly at the other hand, this will make a break into the gameplay, as many other things did.

(I hope that this change had been successfully treated and they know the real consecuences of this, i hope.)

I honestly think that rogue and hunter pet slows should have been nerfed while keeping lock and arcane slows the same or maybe 20%. I honestly don't think that this would cause a rift between classes since even after the nerf rogues and hunters are still ridiculously good. The only reason this was ever nerfed in the first place was due to hunter pets auto applying an aoe debuff that the hunter didn't even have to use a global for. By the time the next expansion rolls around blizzard could remove cast slows completely but for right now I don't understand nerfing locks along side what was really the issue (even though the nerf does help them).
